Getting out in the horse box is a weekly if not a daily occurrence for an international event rider. During the summer months, it can be non-stop – with weekend-long competitions, training away from home, and trips to the gallops, the busy lifestyle allows limited precious time for regrouping and more importantly, cleaning!
With the sheer number of locations visited over the summer season – which more often than not regularly involves crossing into different countries – horses’ hooves and our own shoes and boots can potentially pick up harmful germs, so it is of vital importance to ensure that the horsebox is not at risk of becoming contaminated and is kept scrupulously clean.
We spoke to international event rider and RenaSan ambassador Adam Trew about the practicalities of establishing good hygiene practices for his luxury Equicruiser horsebox to minimise the risk of his horses coming into contact with any infectious diseases.
“During the summer we are out every week training or at a competition. It is really important to make sure that whilst traveling in the lorry, my horses are not at risk of contracting viruses or infections. Once the lorry has been cleaned after a trip we give the horse area a good spray with RenaSan Antiseptic spray to make sure it is completely disinfected. If the horses are ever stabled on site whilst we are away, we use RenaSan to disinfect the walls, mangers, water troughs, etc. Basically, we don’t go anywhere without it!”
