Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is produced naturally in our immune systems (in fact all animals) and is the substance the cells in our bodies use to fight infections and kill invading germs and nasties.

In industry it is known as electrolysed water, and is commercially made from water, salt and electricity.

Hypochlorous acid is one of the most effective known biocides, killing 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses in seconds!

As it contains no harsh chemicals or alcohol it poses no risk to humans or animals and can even be used to kill bacteria in drinking water.

An amazing eco product, it is readily biodegradable dissipating to salt & water.

Hypochlorous acid effectively kills bacteria, viruses, yeasts, fungus, moulds and spores.

If you have a group of 1 million bacteria. A disinfectant that would kill 99.9% would leave 1,000 bacteria still alive. These bacteria can re-populate to the original size in just a few hours.

With a product that is proven to kill 99.9999% on contact, it will leave 0-1 bacteria alive.

RenaSan is suitable for a wide variety of animal care uses including:

  • Skin disinfectant and antiseptic

  • Eye care

  • Ear care

  • Skin care

  • Teat disinfectant

  • Surface disinfectant

Yes, completely safe. It does not contain any banned substances and adheres to all jockey clubs, FEI, and competition rules.

The pH of all RenaSan Hypochlorous products is neutral at pH 7.2. This means it won’t sting, is non-irritating and non-sensitising.

RenaSan’s hypochlorous acid has a strength of 150ppm free available chlorine.

Our products need to be protected from UV rays to ensure continued stability. Therefore, all our packaging is UV protected to a very high standard.

Always be wary about products that claim to be Hypochlorous in non-UV protected bottles.

Hypochlorous acid should be stored out of direct sunlight but does not need to be refrigerated, even when opened.

It also should not be decanted into any other storage, Hypochlorous acid is light sensitive so is packaged accordingly.

As it poses no health and safety concerns, there are no specific storage requirements.

The answer is NO, Hypochlorous acid is a powerful disinfectant yet perfectly gentle and you do not require PPE when using this as a disinfectant or sanitising.

RenaSan hypochlorous works much quicker than any disinfectant product you can buy from the supermarket. Typically, at least 5 times faster, working in seconds not minutes, and it kills more germs (including viruses), killing up to 99.9999%.

Opened or unopened all our Hypochlorous products will have a use by date to guide you, typically this will be around a year at purchase.

The term ‘acid’ may seem scary, but Hypochlorous Acid is a weak acid and oxidizing agent. It is produced using only water and salt that is passed through a digitalised process of electricity called electrolysis. Hypochlorous is a gentle disinfectant and perfectly safe to use around children or any baby animal!

Absolutely. Our Hypochlorous products are compliant with European Biocidal Products Regulations (EU528/2012), UK HSE, and are Type 3 Veterinary approved. RenaSan has been extensively tested for efficacy and safety for humans, animals, and the environment. You can find out more about the regulations below.

250ml – Turn lock mechanism at top of trigger neck.

500ml – Twist nozzle to spray or jet.

Any further issues, please get in touch.

We do not recommend using the product after the expiry date as the solution will not be effective in killing 99.9999% of germs.

RenaSan Hypochlorous products should not be diluted.

The products utilise the same revolutionary hypochlorous technology, it is just different sizes and delivery systems for the intended use.

The smell is produced naturally by the hypochlorous present and is completely safe, harmless and gentle. Whilst hypochlorous is far removed from chlorine, it is a member of the chlorine family, albeit one that is produced naturally in all mammalian, avian and reptilian bodies to kill pathogens. This gives it a slight chlorine odour.

Yes! RenaSan Hypochlorous technology is perfectly safe to use on pregnant or baby pets.

Hypochlorous acid has many uses but there are different regulations in different countries.

Not only is it a revolutionary first aid product, it can also be used to sanitise hard & soft surfaces (including in food prep and eating areas E.g. the dog bowls!)

The Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, Regulation (EU) 528/2012) concerns the placing on the market and use of biocidal products, which are used to protect humans, animals, materials or articles against harmful organisms like pests or bacteria, by the action of the active substances contained in the biocidal product. This regulation aims to improve the functioning of the biocidal products market in the EU, while ensuring a high level of protection for humans, animals and the environment.

All biocidal products require an authorisation and the active substances contained in that biocidal product must be approved to be legally on sale.

As of 29th June 2021, in compliance with the specified timescale, RenaSan’s manufacturing partner has filed its UK BPR Active Substance Dossiers with the HSE and are therefore also a legal manufacturer and supplier of hypochlorous acid for the UK market.
