Hypochlorous acid or (HOCl) sounds scary, but it is actually a very mild acid that is produced naturally in all animal and human immune systems to kill invading germs.
Hypochlorous is not only one of the most effective known biocides capable of killing 99.9999% of all germs. It is also readily biodegradable.
The other great advantage of Hypochlorous is the speed at which it kills pathogens – in seconds rather than minutes.
Hypochlorous was discovered in the 19th century by a British scientist.
Actually producing hypochlorous was first achieved by scientists in the 1960s. There was always a problem however in that no one was able to make a stable version that could be packaged with a shelf life.
